The Advantages of Living in South Florida
Fishing? Sure, many residents fish the local lakes using a catch and release method, and as one resident says, “When I put them back I know where they'll be next time.” When asked how large some of the fish were he held his arms about 2 ½ feet apart. Fish story? No, we don't think so.

However, within a short drive one can fish the Indian river, the St. Lucie River, the Atlantic Ocean, and Lake Okeechobee, which at 700 square miles is the largest (the 2nd largest freshwater lake in the United States) in Florida. Just a few miles south, Stuart, Florida, is known as the Sailfish Capital of the World.

What else is located nearby, that might pique your curiosity?
If you're into ranching.....

.....there are cattle ranches (raising cattle is still one of the biggest businesses in the state).

Florida's ranchers raise the third largest number of cattle of any state east of the Mississippi.

Horse ranches (Florida is estimated to have over 500,000 horses)

Florida is Famous for Fresh Fruit and Juices!

The world's best known (and best tasting fruit) Indian River Citrus is raised in this area.   Al's Family Farm is located nearby on Kings Hwy.  This long established, family-run business gives tours, samples, and even has a restaurant on-site. Well worth a stop, especially if you have children in the car.

If you like baseball, the New York Mets spring training games are a short drive away at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie. And, during the summer the St. Lucie Mets (Class A, Advanced) play often at Tradition Field. Most games are open seating and often coupon discounts are available for food and tickets.
Botanical gardens as mentioned earlier, are common in Vero Beach, Fort Pierce, and Port St. Lucie, too. All are nationally recognized and again are worth the short drive. Despite being hit hard by hurricanes in 2004 and 2005, palm trees still abound.
Theaters are also plentiful on the Treasure Coast. Historic downtown Fort Pierce is the home of the Sunrise Theater where great entertainers are the headliners during "the season". Pineapple Playhouse is also located in Fort Pierce. Riverside Theater also is well known in the upscale Vero Beach community. Vero Beach is also known for its large art community, with stores, museums, classes, shows, and more.
Tours of all kind, eco-tours, air boat tours, paddle wheel tours, museum tours, deep sea fishing tours, the Navy Seal Museum tour, sport fishing tours, and more. One should never lack for things to do while spending time in south Florida on the Treasure Coast. There's much more to do than spend all your time lying in the sunshine at the beach or swimming in the ocean. Okay, there's nothing wrong with that either.

Taste some wines produced from locally grown grapes at the Endless Summer Winery!
Enjoy the festivals in their pavilion, tour the distillery or play frisbee golf in the vineyard.
